Well folks, it’s a new year. Which means new goals, new aspirations and a full 12 months of new FTW Wrestling action heading our way. Looking back at 2011, I’d say it was an overall good year for Fight The World Wrestling. In all honesty, my favorite event of the year was hands down, Road To Gold. Largest house in FTW history, Bret Hart, a kick ass last man standing match between Sullivan and Oddity, the Rumble and more. When thinking about one of the not so greatest moments for FTW in 2011, I will flat out have to say that Darkest Days was a tough one. Look, not every single FTW event is going to be unbelievable and spectacular. There was just something off about everything that night. But hey, it happens. More often than not, FTW delivers and the way FTW finished off 2011, with a cage match between Reefer and Oddity, it couldn’t have been any better. First thing I want to do is hand out my year end awards for 2011. Yes, I know it’s already the middle of January, but I’m behind schedule so I’ll give you my picks and a brief description, ok whiners?

FTW WRESTLER OF THE YEAR 2011
Winner: Jay Lover

I don’t want to say this is an obvious answer, but in my opinion, Lover had the must memorable and greatest 2011 of any FTW star. He extended his reign as FTW World Tag Champion with Tommy Buddz to 23 months (yes, I know they lost the titles to the Nightmares. Settle down children) He gained the support, love, and respect of FTW fans, something nobody ever thought would happen. And of course, he defeated Jimmy Jact Cash to become the FTW World Heavyweight Champion. And now, heading into this new year, Jay Lover sits atop Fight The World Wrestling. He is the man. No questions asked.

FTW TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR 2011
Winners: BQE (Lover & Buddz)

I realize I may get some slack for this pick, but let me explain. Despite losing the titles to the Nigerian Nightmares in September, Jay Lover and Tommy Buddz beat the holy hell out of every team that stepped in their way. Homicide and Balls Mahoney, The Dirty Rotten Scoundrelz, and even the Nightmares fell victim to the BQE’s two year title reign. They were flat out dominant for 3 quarters of 2011. How can they not receive this award?? Yes I know they aren’t a team anymore and yes I know Jay Lover also won the wrestler of the year award but you have to admit, he had one hell of a year. And Tommy Buddz has really stepped up his game over the last 2 years. I’m impressed. Tag Champs for 2 years straight. Sorry, they were the best in 2011.

FTW FEMALE WRESTLER OF 2011
Winner: “Cutie Pie” Candy Cartwright

With new additions to the women’s division this past year such as Tina San Antonio, Marti Belle, and Aida Marie, the competition grew fierce. But in the end, it was Candy Cartwright who was in the spotlight. The proof is in the pudding. She defeated Marti and Aida and improved her in ring game. If FTW officials choose to introduce a women’s title, I’m sure Candy will be at the front of the line.

MOST DISAPPOINTING FTW WRESTLER OF 2011
Winner: Joey Ace

It truly looked like big things were on the horizon for the five star studd, but things really began to fall apart for Ace in FTW at the beginning of the summer. A series of poor performances, a bad attitude, and developing heat with FTW officials sent Ace packing. In all honesty, FTW officials really had high hopes and great plans for this young kid, but things just didn’t work out as planned. By this time in his career in FTW, Ace should be heading towards upper mid card - main event status. Unfortunately, it looks as if Ace won’t be stepping back into an FTW ring anytime soon. Wish the kid good luck!

BREAKOUT FTW WRESTLER OF 2011
Winner: Beer’d Life

I’m going to go with a tag team here because.....well it’s my awards and I can do what I please. Two guys, dressed in purple kool aid shirts, overweight, out of shape, and downright scary to look at. Yes, these are the breakout stars of FTW in 2011. Seriously though, Beer’d Life, since debuting back in September, have caught the attention of FTW fans. Their unpredictable behavior and in ring work is a mixture of semi-decent wrestling and hilarity. But in the end, it’s all about being memorable and getting a reaction and that’s what Johnny Malloy and Headrush have done. Tell me, which is more likely to hold your attention? Seeing two generic “Ken Dolls” in the ring for 12 minutes giving you the same boring moves you’ve seen for 20 years, or two boisterous, over the top, entertaining purple lunatics beat the snot outta their opponents? To each his own, but I can only watch so many “strong style” matches per show.

BEST IN RING PROMO SKILLS OF 2011
Winner: Earl Cooter & Grim Reefer

I know I’m gonna get s#%t for giving this award to both men, but can you really pick a winner here? Both are the most original, comedic, and meanest promo men on the mic I’ve seen in recent years. Cooter is a straight up idiot, but when he stood face to face with Mick Foley at “Have a Nice Day”, he left fans speechless with his ridiculous speech. As for Reefer, he’s been tearing into fans since day one and hasn’t slowed down one bit. Go back to the episode of Overdrive where he trashes Lenn Oddity and embarrasses Juggalo Myers. Priceless. They both deserve it.

FTW MATCH OF THE YEAR 2011

This truly was a tough one. After thinking of the magnitude of the match, the raw emotion and effort put in by both men, and crowd satisfaction......

Winner: Oddity vs. Sullivan - Last Man Standing from Road to Gold

This match marked Big Jim Sullivan’s first one on one title opportunity. A veteran of the squared circle and a man that has been with FTW since day one, he left it all on the line that night. Both men were a bloody mess and both wanted the title so badly. After delivering the Hell Driver to Oddity through a table off the apron, neither man could answer the ten count and the match ended in a draw. Of course, Jimmy Jact Cash ruined everything by cashing in his title shot like a cheap bastard. But I digress. This match had everything you could ask for and more. My hat goes off to both men. And ironically, the battles they fought against one another has led them to become tag partners in 2012. Irony?

Well that’s my 2011 year end awards. Whether you like or hate them....it doesn’t matter. It’s my opinion and it’s my column. You don’t like it, don’t read it. If you have a problem with anything that was said, you know how to reach me. Ok enough negativity, KEVIN NASH IS COMING TO FTW IN 2 WEEKS!!!!! Stay Tuned!
